Historic resort hotel founded in 1845 and expanded in 1901. In its heyday five trains a day would travel from Chicago to the rail spur at the front step of the hotel. For a while it changed ownership seemingly every couple of years, then in 2005 it was bought, closed, and comprehensively restored and renovated to its original grandeur. During this renovation a casino was constructed north of the hotel.
