On July 19,1878 the outlaw Sam Bass and his gang were in a gunfight here after killing Deputy Sheriff A. W. Grimes in what used to be Saradora's coffee shop. Bass and two of his cohorts were shot in the alley behind the buildings to the north of this location and Bass was later found in a pasture to the west of this site and brought back to Round Rock to die in a building near the gunfight sight.
