Tavern on the Green Restaurant (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York
restaurant, Victorian Gothic (architecture), interesting place, 1934_construction

Tavern on the Green was a historic luxury restaurant which opened in 1934 in the sheepfold that housed the sheep that grazed Sheep Meadow, built to a design by Calvert Vaux in 1870. That alteration process was done as part of a Depression-era work relief program.

When the original iteration of Tavern on the Green closed on December 31, 2009, the fittings were sold soon afterwards at auction to help with the bankruptcy proceedings.

It has been reincarnated as a restaurant again after being used as a visitor's center.
