Crystal Beach Resort Madoc

Canada / Ontario / Madoc / Crystal Beach Rd.
 abandoned / shut down, closed

A now closed, former trailer resort with cabins and limited tent space, this 152 acre recreational facility had existed since the 1950s. Located on the north shore of Moira Lake overlooking a pristine beach, it was once managed by then owner Bill Hawthorne primarily as a car campground for tents, with trailers introduced later on. At that time horses were available at the riding stable, or for experienced riders in the back woods, past the marble quarry. Permanent cabins were available for rental. Dances by a roaring fire on the beach every night were common in the 60s, and fun.

The resort was closed in 2011 after eviction notices were submitted to each tenant. The owner has applied, without success, for re-zoning of the property

  • Not sure why this site says it is closed.......It is far from closed!
  • Is there still camping there ?
  • The park is definitely not closed. The Author has no clue of what they'll talking about.
  • YES ... I am not sure what this person who wrote this is talking about ... been in the park for over 6 years now and the park has never closed??
  • Glad to hear it's still open. I have great memories of the place as a kid in the 60s.
  • Exactly. The residents of the area of the park called "the permanents" had to go: their 20 lease expired. However, the rest of the resort is still open. I'm heading there tonight.
  • Definitely camping is available! Seasonal or overnight!
