  • Tagore Institute, which may be regarded as a landmark of Sitarampur, should find a pride of place in the aerial map attached with the site. Although it now stands at the western end of the playground as a desolate deserted and delapidated relic of the past, as an old timer and past resident of Sitarampur towards the late fifties of the last century I can vouch for its past glory and splendour. It was a centre of social and cultural activities of Sitarampur and adjoining areas in the past. Dramatic performances and cinema shows of educational values used to be staged in Tagore Institute in the past, long before it was used as a cinema hall on commerciaal basis. My father was Railway Goods Clerk in Sitarampur, and we used to stay at Rly Quarter close to the station and in front of RPF Police barrack, since demolished long back. There used to be lots of games sporting activities and cultural events including scouts and guides and monimala under the guidance of one Shri Anil Gupta,Sushil Mitra and his brother Ajoy Mitra. The girl guides were being taken care of by Smt Arati Chanda and Smt Jyotsna Chanda.
  • What Mr. Tapan Kumar Mukherjee mentioned is absolutely true. But, those were bygone days. Lost glory is very difficult to get regained. I think, Mr. Tapan Kumar Mukherjee and Biltu (Ujjal) are brothers. If yes, contact me (9432790659), I am your friend Biswanath Bhattacharjee. Provide me with mobile no. of Ajay Mukherjee(Loco Tank), if possible.
