Smiddy Learning Center (Hagan Memorial Library) (Williamsburg, Kentucky)

USA / Kentucky / Williamsburg / Williamsburg, Kentucky

The J. Charles Smiddy Learning Resource Center is a 10,000 square foot, three-floor expansion of the university's library. The Center addressed the additional space needs of the library and the media center, as well as allowing space for the Gibson Distance Learning Center, and the CIS Department. Within the Smiddy Center is the Norma Jeanne Perkins Hagan Library, completed in 1960 and remodeled in the early 1980's. In that remodeling, the second floor, which originally was only partially floored with an open balcony, was extended across the building. Constructed on three levels, the library contains the college's collection of print and media materials, offices, and processing rooms. Also within this Smiddy Center is the Gibson Distance Learning Center. Equipped with an AT&T Picturetel interactive video system, this Gibson Center allows the university to link up by land networking with any video conference room in the world. On the bottom floor of the building are offices for the Academic Resource Center (ARC), the Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Department of Human Services and Social Work faculty. Several classrooms as well as multiple computer laboratories are located on this floor.
