Tramping Hut on the Southern Crossing

The first Alpha Hut was built in 1915, and replaced in 1953 because it was just inside the new water catchment area). The present hut was built in 1982, after the second hut burned down.

and the 3rd in 1982. Two sleeping platforms in 1995, tank water (outside). A cosy hut with a nice view of Mt. Hector. It was substantially upgraded in early 1996 - essentially making this the fourth hut on Alpha.

It is 6 hours from the Kaitoke road end, and 4-5 hours to Kime Hut. It sleeps 16, and has a water supply and a toilet.
