The southernmost village on the isle of Streymoy (Faroe Islands). Important historical site with St. Olav's Church (12th century), ruins St. Magnus Cathedral (14th century) and old farm house Kirkjubøargarður from 11th century. It was seat of Catholic bishops of the Faroe Islands till dissolving the diocese in 1536. Most of buildings were destroyed by strong storm at 16th century, which created the Kirkjubøhólmurin islet, where remainings of those houses might still be found. Patursson, well known family on the Faroe Islans lives there.
