  • Dude be honest. It's the ghetto. You can still see street prostitutes in daylight.
  • You know, one of the things I liked about living in Toronto was that the "ghetto" areas were never that bad or scary. Nevertheless, you hear that word used quite freely.
  • An insightful comment from Lil_Gish, a person who has obviously lived in more than one city. Even the baddest areas of Toronto are not very dangerous. We have always lived in the inner city, and we thought nothing of letting our children go out at night. They survived with nary a scratch. Parkdale's a bit seedy but it has its charms as well.
  • In fairness, Tmax is perfectly correct too -- crackwhores can be seen in Parkdale in broad daylight. Nevertheless, I insist that neither Parkdale nor Toronto in general are dangerous.
  • Folks, I grew up in this ghetto, moved to the suburbs but my son lives there. He loves it. He goes to OCAD. What do you expect. This place has an edge that is for sure. But it has changed very little in twenty years. Give or take the ladies.
  • Lived here for almost 3 years, my girlfriend for 4. she was mugged by kids about 2 years ago, but they weren't from the area. Yes this place has it's fair share of reprobates, crackwhores and scumbags roaming the streets, but they are living in a different reality which doesn't cross into that of the majority of the other residents. Just a scratch under the surface reveals a very tight knit, generous and welcoming community of friendly faces with a truly unique spirit. Cowanation, the annual street party, epitomizes this culture and should not be missed. One of the best places to live in the city.

  • Parkdale is perfectly safe. forget the crackheads - they don't bother people. I go out at 3 in morning - nothing happens. Police are weird though
