Paleokastro is dating back to the 4th century BC and it is built on the top of the hill Vigla, on the ruins of an ancient Dorian Acropolis. On the location one can see many buildings, towers, large water cisterns etc. of the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine period. On the 14th AD century it was used by the Knights of St. John. It is perhaps the oldest and most important attraction of the island.
