Com Dhíneol (Comeenoole) is a small but spectacular beach reached by a steep roadway. It featured in a 2004 Opal Astra TV advert, shown in Ireland and the UK, where the Astra drives down this road but ends up on a pier filmed in Dingle. Made famous by Ryan's Daughter when some of the film scenes were shot here, and mixed with other storm footage filmed in Galway. Great surf with strong rip tide and under-toe, many uninformed swimmers get into difficulties here, inspite of the posted warnings. Rocky outcrops cut off some of the beach at high tides. Site of the wreck of the Ranga, a Spanish freighter (lost after leaving it too late to accept an expensive salvage offer according to folklore), most of the remains were removed when "Far and Away" was being filmed locally in the westofdingle. A great place to stop on the "Slea Head Drive", it is sheltered from the north and west winds, take a few minutes to admire the view, or enjoy a picnic, have a paddle but don't swim unless you are prepared for a wild ride.
