beach, interesting place
This is a shingle ridge beach spanning 18 miles (29km) from Burton Bradstock to Portland; in effect maintaining a physical link with the mainland. The ridge is detached from the coast and encloses a 'lagoon' called The Fleet¹.
An interesting feature of the beach is its high concentration of component flint and quartzite stones that begin in small pebble sizes in the west but increase to fist size stones towards Portland.
