This bridge is in the heart of downtown Augusta. it was named in the 1970s for Father John Curran, who was a longtime priest at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. After allegations of sexual abuse by Father Curran arose, pressure was placed on the state to rename the bridge. In 2009, the bridge was renamed the Calumet Bridge at Fort Western.
