Originally set up to manufacture DC generators and steam engines to drive them, the plant was purchased by the Elliott Company, of Jeannette, Pa, in the 1902's. During World War 2, the plant made many electrical drive assemblies for US Navy submarines, and supplied many of the motors to drive pumps on the so-called "Big Inch" pipeline, built during the war to carry petroleum products from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast.
Elliott closed the plant in the early 1960s. It is currently owned by an industrial development authority and houses several small manufacturing concerns.
