431 MU was responsible for all large Transport for the RAF in Germany including recovery of crashed Aircraft, Major servicing of engines, Airframes and producing any signs that was needed by the Royal Air Force.
Transport of spares to RAF Gatow in Berlin and also the Winter survival camp in Bayern Germany.
And transport of weapons to and from 3BAD Bracht 5 miles to the North. Weapons transport in 3BAD Bracht was done with Eager Beavers fork lift trucks and then they was placed on to trains or trucks for the transportation to Bruggen.If it was by trucks 431MU had that job for the transportation.
431MU did not take part in all the Exercises that Bruggen held during the Cold War because they came under Support Command of the RAF and Bruggen came under Strike Command of the RAF.
Sister Unit was 2 Mechanical Transport Squadron and RAF Stafford.
