  • In 1952 I was one of the advance R.E.M.E.party that arrived at what was a new barracks built on the site of an old prisoner of war camp. Happy days as we were only a few in number driving all the trucks and S.P.Ack Ack guns from the railway station to the camp whilst we were free of all normal military duties. The regiment to which I was attached as an L.A.D.vehicle mechanic, was the 16th L.A.A Royal Artillary. the postal area of Quebeck Barracks then, was B.A.O.R.10.We spent a great deal of time scrubbing the barrack room wooden floors with bleach, as by mistake they had all been creasoted. We still had to sleep in the rooms whilst they were drying out,(not so good!).
