This estate sits on a lot that was divided into two plots after the 1981 arson fire that destroyed a mansion that previously occupied the site. This was the home of the late Mohammed al Fassi, a Saudi sheik, who was related by marriage to the Saudi royal family. His mansion was notorious for it's green paint and statuary that the sheik had painted in flesh tones (with visible pubic hair!). It was considered an eyesore while it was in his possession, and there are reports that when the fire caused the roof to collapse, there was a cheer from onlookers who had gathered to watch.

The site was also formerly the estate of Max Whittier, one of the founders of Beverly Hills.
