The Red Pyramid

At the time of construction, it was the tallest man-made building. It remains the third-biggest ancient Egyptian pyramid (after the more famous ones at Giza). It was white-colored until the Middle Ages when the casing stones were stripped off for contemporary building projects ---this revealed the rust-colored subsurface blocks and led to the nickname. After being long "off limits" due to nearby military facilities, the site now permits occasional tourist visitors.
