Arana Gulch is a 67 acre remnant of California Coastal Prairie, home to the Santa Cruz tarplant, a federally Threatened and California Endangered species. Arana Gulch is a prairie grassland surrounded by live oak and eucalyptus, populated by red-tail hawks, fox and other sensitive species.
The City of Santa Cruz is attempting to buld an 8 to 11 foot wide paved bicycle road through Arana Gulch, across critical habitat for the tarplant.
