During the holiday season, this block gets together and decorates the entire street. Head there and see moving 8 foot tall nutcrackers, plenty of large candycanes, paper lanterns, and lots more.

  • And not everyone who lives there is happy with the pressure to do all this excessive decorating.
  • Sure, but since it's been a part of the neighborhood for decades (!), no one moved there not knowing about the tradition and expectations. Sorry, not much sympathy.
  • My wife and I looked at buying a house here. The decorations came with the house, and the "obligations" were explained to us. The realtor also complained about the neighbors who never decorate. The great irony is that the larger neighborhood has a high Jewish population.
  • It's a wonderful place to take the kids. There's a solid stream of cars, which means no time to stop and take it all in. If you can manage (and it's not freezing), park on Ravenna and let the kids walk through it - they'll enjoy it.
  • A great place for little kids, if you don't want to be pressured into an obsene winter electric bill, you could buy a house somewhere else in Seattle, and probably for a lot less money than one in Ravenna.
  • You could pay a lot more for a house somewhere else in Seattle, too (I'm looking at you, Laurelhurst). It's a buyer's market; right now Ravenna is littered with places that have been on the market a couple months.
