At nearly one mile in length, the Long Meadow is thought to be the longest stretch of unbroken meadow in any U.S. park, providing instant relief from the bustling urban landscape just outside the Park's walls.
The Long Meadow stretches from the Park's northern end at Grand Army Plaza, to its western end at Prospect Park Southwest. Once the home of grazing sheep and legions of lawn tennis and croquet players, the Meadow's grassy slopes are now dotted with people strolling, picnicking, kite-flying and ball-playing. Nearby features include the Picnic House, Bandshell and Ravine. The Long Meadow also hosts summer concerts by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
