This land was originally the Lyndale Farm, owned by Colonial William King. It was purchased by the Minneapolis Park Board in 1899 and the house was built for Theodore Wirth, a famous superintendent. The park has American football, soccer and softball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and an ice rink in winter. The hill next to the house is also a good sledding hill.
