Known before 1997 as "The Counter-Intelligence Military School", this is the best military school ever put together since the creation of the Albania's Army in early 20th century. This military school has produced the most successful Albanian Military Intelligence officers up to 1997. From 1997 to the present day it is a training base for commando units operating under Turkish military instructors. It is the only military union in Albania which did not disintegrate during the fatal collapse of Albania's Army in 1997. In present times, a special commando unit (known as special battalion) has its own headquarter within the regiment itself, and its soldiers have served in Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone.
