Kandassankadavu, a beautiful and peaceful village in Trichur Dist, and one of the prominent and oldest affluent christian communities in Trichur like Vadakkethala Outhudan, Vadakkethala Muriekkaran, Vadakkethala Poovathingal, Vadakkethala Mandhan, Vadakkethal Chakkanaan, Thekkanath Pandaravalappil, Kavalakkat, Vadakkethala Thotungal (formerly Poovathingal), Vadakkethala Mundassery, and many other distinguished families live in this village. The St. Mary's Catholic Parish was established in 1807 when four Vadakkethala elders (Outhudan, Muriekkaran, Mandhan, and Ittimani) brought the copper charter. Originally, they were Enammavu parishioners. Till the 1970's, these families continued to go to the Enammavu parish to celebrate the Palm Sunday Feast when their turn came. The original charter has disappered. The Thekkanath Pandaravalappil family, later on, emigrated from Kizhippillikara. When the Greater Poovathingal Thobias remained childless, he brought his widowed sister with two sons and a daughter. Thus the Kavalakkatt family came from Koratti and still retain the nickname, Korattikaran. The daughter was married to a cadet branch of the Poovathingal family. The first Kandassankadavu person to receive a master's degree was Magalore St. aloysius College Chemistry Professor V. M. Joseph of the Vadakkethala Outhudan family. The first Communist education minister and Malayalam literary critic, Joseph Mundassery, was born and brought up in Kandassankadavu. The former speaker & Health Minister, V.M. Sudheeran is a Kandassankadavu native.
