The remains of 2 old coal shafts nestle amongst the trees here one with some interesting steel cage guides still protruding upwards. Both are partly filled and the whole area is very wet. Production ceased around the time of the General Strike in 1926.

  • The colliery was started in 1843,and has an interesting history involving a fraud case! Work stopped after a roof fall in 1912,although the gale was not surrendered until 1938.The area was subject to open cast mining in the 1970's and has been landscaped.
