power station, coal-fired
Owner/operator : Exelon Energy LLC
Construction of the plant began in the mid-1950s with Unit 1 and Unit 2 coming on-line in 1960 and Unit 3 and Unit 4 coming on-line in 1974 and 1976, respectively. Unit 1 and Unit 2, each 294 megawatts (MW), are nearly identical supercritical steam boiler-turbine generator units that operate on coal.
Unit 3 and Unit 4, each 380 MW), are identical subcritical steam boiler-turbine generator units that run on either natural gas or No. 6 oil based on market pricing. Eddystone Generating Station also has four combustion turbines, which supply power during peak demand periods.
Units 10 and 20 and 30 and 40 are identical pairs of units that were installed in 1967 and 1970, respectively. Each 15 MW combustion turbine operates on No. 2 fuel oil.
x2 Fuel Oil (Nat Gas) St Turb Gen sets
= 760 MW max gen. cap.
+ x2 Coal-fired (sub-bit) Gen sets
= 732 MW max gen. cap.
+ x4 DFO (Gas Turb) Gen Sets
= 76 MW max gen. cap.
= 1, 568 MW max Total Plant Gen. capacity
