The temple rising out of a popular belief that peoples wishes were granted when they prayed and tied metal bells (tillinga) on the branches of an old pipal tree. The temple was later constructed with the tree lying at the centre of the temple and the taller branches spreading out of its roof. People tie bells (tillinga) on the low branches of this tree that lie under the roof and make their wishes.

Tilinga Mandir of Bordubi, Tinsukia is a famous Shiv’s Temple situated at Bordubi, a small town in Tinsukia District of Assam. Tilinga Mandir is about 20 km Driving Distance away from main Tinsukia town and about 7 km from oil town Duliajan. Tilinga means “bell” in Assamese and mandir means “temple” .This Bell Temple is as spiritually and mystically strong as any other temple. There are hundreds and thousands of bells of all sizes in bronze, brass, copper and aluminum that’s tied to the big banyan tree (pipal) and its various branches. People from various parts of India who heard about this temple have visited this temple. According to Hindu Mythology “Monday” is considered as “Lord Siva’s” day and therefore every Monday a huge number of people gather here to worship Lord Siva. So if you are planning to visit '”Tilinga Mandir” for the first time then “Monday” should be the day.
