Rawtenstall is a town at the centre of the steep-sided Rossendale Valley, in Lancashire, England which runs almost due north-south between Burnley and the far north of Bury at the town of Ramsbottom. The eastern side has peaks at varying distance. The western side, particularly here, rises steeply immediately outside of the built-up area and is partly built along on its lower slopes.
