Warrington is a town, borough and unitary authority area of Cheshire. Warrington grew up around industry, including the railway and the Manchester Ship Canal. It was a fairly large town by the 1960s, but it gained New Town Status and almost doubled in size. Historically, it was in Lancashire, but today it is the largest settlement in Cheshire with a population of over 190,000.
