This large tower block designed by Seifert architects, which is on top of the entrance to Aldgate East underground station, was abandoned half way through construction after Landsbanki (the Icelandic bank) went bankrupt and was unable to finance the remaining construction work. Several celebrities are known to have invested in this project and look set to lose much, or all, of their investment. It was set to include 10 stories of offices (approx 10,000 metres of space) and 217 apartments above, but construction stopped at the 11th floor and the site has been abandoned for several months, with cranes and equipment removed from the site. As the recession deepens (as of February 2009) it is very unclear if it will ever be finished.
