Wazirpur Upazila (Barisal district) with an area of 248.35 sq km, is bounded by Agailjhara and Gournadi upazilas on the north, Banaripara and Jhalokati sadar upazila on the south, Babuganj upazila on the east, Kotalipara and Nazirpur upazilas on the west. Main beels are Satla and Kuralia. Main rivers are Wazirpur, Amtali, Kalijira, Bisharkandi.

The location of the Wazirpur town is 22.8111°N 90.2444°E. Wazirpur (Town) stands on the bank of the Wazirpur and consists of six mouzas. The area of town is 6.5 sq km. It has a population of 9510; male 53.73%, female 46.27%. Density of population per sq km is 1463. Literacy rate among the town people is 78.9%. It has one rest house.

Wazirpur thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of 9 union parishads, 118 mouzas and 117 villages.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 227115; male 50.6%, female 49.4%; Muslim 74.5%, Hindu 25% and others 0.5%.

Religious institutions: Mosque 350, tomb 2, temple 70, church 5, noted of which are Khandakar Bari Jami Mosque, Sikarpur Jami Mosque, Harta Gabindha Temple, Dhamshar Church.

Educational institutions: college 12, high school 23, primary school (government) 104, primary school (non-government) 85, madrasa 75. Old institutions: Revrouddradi Government Primary School (1887), Atipara Government Primary School (1914), Habibpur High School (1856).

Land control: Among the peasants, 26% are landless, 53% small, 20% intermediate and 1% rich.
