  • that pic is from 1968
  • So, what's the current status of Dickerson Quarry...do people still swim and dive there? I haven't been since the early 80s, but it was a blast. Dove once off Big 14, which was prety hairy, and did the most intense 1.5 ever off one of the smaller cliffs. You forget how much momentum you get with a spin off of a diving board. Much tougher off of the rock's edge.
  • The owners are getting more and more aggressive (be prepared to ditch your goodies), but if you park in the right place and don't make too much noise, you'll be alright.
  • That place is haunted. 16 miners were killed as a result of a blast which buried them in stone in 1943. Lots of locals will tell you about glowing orbs of light circuling the quarry at night. Also alot of swimmers have died there since it closed.
  • Going there with some friends tomorrow and I heard it's haunted. A group from our school went last year and someone died.
  • Crazy farmer chased my friends and I off with his nerf gun. Be careful.
  • Nerf gun huh lol
  • Group of farm boys chased my friends and I off the property and then proceeded to follow us to our car and tailgate us until we were out of town...freaking crazies.
  • Redneck People chased me and friends out of there, One had a confederate flag tattoo'd on him i would watch out.
  • Crazy farmer chased my friends and me. Learn English.
  • story about this place from 1978: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/1978/07/02/illegal-swim-in-quarry-ends-in-familiar-tragedy/3365ee84-47a8-4271-9990-640bfe081fe2/
  • No miners were killed there; the place shut down when the watchman who was supposed to keep fuel in the pumps got drunk, fell asleep, and let the pump run dry. Water filled the quarry, ruining the equipment. Locals don't mention glowing orbs of light. It's cold and deep, though, and a lot of cliff jumpers have died from drowning or hitting their heads on the rocks.
