Khach lake (arm. Խաչ լիճ, Խաչան լիճ, Խաչլվա Ծով, tur. Kazan golu) is a freshwater lake in Armenian Highland inside of borders of modern Turkey. Khach is historical (i.e. Armenian) name of the lake, means "Cross", as the shape of the lakeshore resembles a cross. During the history untill the 1923 the lake layed in Armenian populated district of Hark' (Bulanik). After the Armenian genocide (1915-23) Armenians were exterminated by Turks and the lake was renamed to Hacli golu (Lake of Cross in Turkish), according to state sponsored program of turkification of all Armenian toponims at the lands emptied of Armenians during the genocide.
