golf course, country club, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places
Founded in 1903, Oakmont has hosted the U.S. Open eight times, more than any other course. It has also been the venue for three PGA Championships, five U.S. Amateurs, and two U.S. Women's Opens. It is frequently ranked in the top 5 courses in the U.S. and in 1987 was the first course to become a National Historic Landmark.
Some 200 bunkers and fast, undulating greens contribute to Oakmont's reputation as one of the most challenging courses in the world.
Since the mid-1990s over 4000 trees have been removed from the course, restoring its original links-style appearance.
