Estate home designed c. 1932 by Fisher & Fisher of Denver in the Georgian Revival style on 9 acres of land for Lawrence C. Phipps, an executive with Carnegie Steel who moved to Denver in 1901 and became a leader in public affairs. Serving two terms as a U.S. Senator, Phipps also built the Agnes Memorial Sanatarium for the treatment of tuberculosis, actively promoted Fitzsimons Army Hospital, built the auditorium wing of the Denver Museum of Natural History, and played a major role in the Moffat Tunnel project.

The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on 2/10/1975 and was subsequently listed on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties

The house was donated to the University of Denver in 1964 by the Senator Phipps' wife, Margaret Rogers Phipps. The university used the estate as an events and conference center until 2010, when it was sold and returned to its original use as a private residence. The current owner is Tim Gill.
