Mun Reservoir was created as a result of construction of Mun Dam of Mun Irrigation Project . Official Designation of the The Project is " Mun D - 03055" . Locally this is also known as " Mun Talav " or " Mun Lake" . Mun Project was constructed as part of irrigation projects by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 1998 and impounds Mun River . Nearest city to dam is Khamgaon and the Dam is situated in Khamgaon Taluka of Buldana District of Maharashtra . The dam is earth fill gravity dam. The purpose of the dam and project is Irrigation . The dam is divided in two portions by the Spillway. The portion on the left side ( West ) of the spillway is 384 m ( 1259.84 Feet ) + The portion on the Right ( East ) side of the spillway is 1010 m ( 3313.64 Feet ) . The Total length of the Dam , including the Spillway is 1466 m ( 4809.71 Feet ) . while the height of the dam above lowest foundation is 30.2 m ( 99.08 Feet ) . The spillway is of Ogee type and spillway length is 72 m ( 236.22 Feet ) . It has Five Radial type of spillway gates. . Catchment area of Mun Reservoir is 31.404 Thousand Hectors. Maximum / Gross storage capacity of Mun Reservoir is 42,48 MCM. Live storage capacity is 36.83 MCM . Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots Mun lake is also a popular Tourist attraction for its scenic beauty .
