'Izvorul Mureşului' commune was formed in 1937 by merging several settlements: Boteni hamlet, Tincani hamlet (part of 'Valea-Strâmbă') and the "Mureş Izvor" hamlet (part of Tomeşti-Ciuc). Since 1968, when the latest administrative organisation in Romania was adopted, "Izvorul Mureşului" is part of Voşlăbeni commune.
