Abune Petros Square (Addis Ababa)

Abune Petros Square, named after the heroic Archbishop of Ethiopia who gave up his life in support of Ethiopian patriots against fascism during WW2. The monument, located at the center of the square depicts the horrific act of violence perpetrated on him for defending his country against invasion. The actual spot of his execution is marked by a memorial slab, and can be viewed at the western edge the Square.
