Large resort hotel opened in 1930. Its ballroom was traditionally popular with politicians and debutantes. Now, it mostly hosts conventioneers.

Overlooking Rock Creek Park, the Shoreham and adjacent Wardman Park hotel complexes dominate the tiny community of Woodley Park, an area of apartments that is popular with professionals and international students.

Seen from the adjacent Taft Memorial bridge the hotels rise out of the surrounding terrain like a city-within-a-city.
