Only go here if you can not find anything else to do in the Toccoa area. Most of the displays have things bought from military surplus stores. There is not really anything great about the museum beside the stable brought over from the UK, but it is so packed with non related items that it really takes something away. The pictures of the medals of the men of Easy Co is nice but they do not have much else about any of the other regiments that trained at Toccoa. But, they never had a movie made about them did they ?
Also, they claim here to be the home of the Dirty Dozen but the DVD of the movie (bought here)with the background of the movie has a interview with the man who wrote the screenplay and he said he had never heard of Toccoa, Jake McNeice, or the "Filthy 13" when he wrote the story.

The Currahee Military Weekend was once a great weekend event with fun for the whole family, but since 2006 it has been worse every year. This author went into the museum following the boring 2008 programs and was told by a lady there that the atendance was bad because of the gas prices, all I know is it was not worth another drive from Atlanta to attend again. I have since heard from some reenactors involved that the Chamber of Commerce, and museum leaders ran the guy who was in charge of the reunion off after the great 2006 get together. Boo on them !!!

We found a copy of a driving tour in a box near the Mt Currahee that had signs for sites related to the camp and that was THE highlight to our last Toccoa visit.

  • YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE MONEY THE REUNION SUCKS.........BAD !!! I WAS THERE EVERY YEAR FROM 2003- 2008 AND WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. MY WIFE AND I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THE GUY WHO WAS IN CHARGE OF THE REUNION, BUT HE DID A GREAT JOB AND WAS A SUPER NICE YOUNG MAN. WELL IF THE STORY ABOUT THE TOCCOA CoC AND MUSEUM IS TRUE THEN HE HAS THE LAST LAUGH.
  • i had planned to go to this museum but have heard that they money you to death from the time you walk in the door. a former member of my units daughter went over there and said the museum people followed them around the whole time they were there like they were going to steal something. i changed my mind about going since all i have heard is bad.
  • I m not going back to the reunion.
  • I was at this museum a while back and some of the people where friendly but they follow you around and watch you like everything in their rinky dink museum was made of gold. Some stuff was cool but for the most part not worth the money I had to pay to get in. Go to the Airborne museum at Ft Bragg.
  • HEY BOB B DO NOT USE NAMES. MESSAGE BACK. B- OUT
  • I was in the area from 06-08 and I would have to agree that the reunion took a dive after the guy that had run them was almost literally forced from the position. The first few years I saw a rapid decline in attendance AND quality. Don't get me wrong, I do like the folks there, but I will not waste any of my time coming back. A pity that so many people think the same. It wasn't broke. There was no reason to 'fix' it.
