Camp Toccoa was used as a Army Airborne training camp during WWII. It is the birthplace of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division (memorialized in the book and TV miniseries "Band of Brothers") as well as several other airborne units.

295th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company (FA): completed basic training at Camp Toccoa, from July 21, 1943 through November 24, 1943.

Comments

  • There were other regiments and units that trained here and fought and died in WWII. The 506th was a good unit but they did not win the war alone just because a mini series was made about them. The 501st, 506th,511th, and 517th along with some signal corps and airborne arty units.
