A cul de sac off Eliot street in Jamaica Plain, named after the Newsome family whose original farmhouse is now located at the end of the street. Before the house was moved it was located in the center and was surrounded by a grand porch and an open field. In the late 19th century, the house was moved to the end of the street and nine houses were built,as an early "subdivision," made possible by the streetcar. Most of the houses are two-family units, some of them built in what locally is referred to as the "Philadelphia" style. This part of Jamaica Plain was one of Boston's "streetcar suburbs.
