The Central School (ro:Şcoala Centrală) is one of the oldest schools in the City, and was established in March 1851 by Prince Barbu Ştirbei as a school for girls, which opened in 1852. The building that houses the Central School was built in 1890 by Ion Mincu, the promoter of the Neo-Romanian style of architecture. The Central School is an architectural landmark and was included in the "List of Historical Monuments in Romania (2004)" with the Code:B-II-m-A-18924.
