Historic synagogue building designed c. 1928 in the Byzantine Revival style by Simon & Simon with structural elements by Guastavino Fireproof Tile Co. The soaring main sanctuary features intricate Moorish detailing.

The congregation, dating to 1795, is the oldest continuous Ashkenazi congregation in the U.S.
