Nuclear Waste Lagoon B-11

Russia / Cheljabinsk / Argayash /
dangerous place / area, radioactive, pond, radiation control

Nuclear waste lagoon. Built in the upper part of the Techa River in the 50's and 60's to contain and store large amounts of low-level liquid nuclear waste. Prior to this, they were simply dumping the waste directly into the Techa River.

The dam and reservoir side number 11 is the only obstacle separating the Techa from the lagoon. Heavily contaminated water and radioactive sediment continue to leak into the Techa River every year.
