Actual age of this temple is not known, but definitely records are available indicating its existence from 12th century itself. The agriculturally rich village has served as a fort also for the TRAVANCORE KINGDOM.This temple was built by VEERA MAARTHANDA VARMAN. A few battles have taken place here involving Travancore, Arcot nawab, and the English. The temple tower is 135 feet high with 9 tiers. Renovation works of the tower have been completed and the Kumbabhishekam of the Gopuram as well as all other sannidhis were successfully performed, on 14th July 2011, with His Grace and Blessings. More than a LAKH of people participated in the event!
