Los Rios Subdivision

This southwest corner of Unit 17, located west of Rio Rancho Boulevard, has been developed almost exclusively by individual owners and builders, lot by lot, each in turn as water and power become affordable as they are extended to adjacent sites. With street names all beginning with the name "Rio" (River), the subdivision has been colloquially named "Los Rios", however with the 500-year flood events brought by the rains of July and August, 2006, the name has proved prophetic, with the uncontrolled arroyos (drainage ditches) overflowing their channels, and the dirt roads of the subdivision, never paved due to lack of centralized development, washed out to as much as 9 feet below grade.

  • I think the 500 year floods that happened here in July and August of 2006 was a punishment from God.
  • In December of 2006 there was also a 500 year snowstorm.
