  • Neville Island was, for generations, home to the Dravo shipyard, where hundreds of towboats and barges were built. It was the first destination for the Delta Queen, when she was brought from California in 1947. The yard saw a rapid decline in the financial downturn of the late 1970s, and finally went out of business. Many of the boats built there are still running strong, on both the Mississippi River system and in South America.
