Kinder Scout is a moorland plateau (and hill) in the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District in England. Part of the moor, at 636 m (2,088 ft) above sea level, is the highest point in the Peak District and the highest point in Derbyshire. It is accessible from the villages of Hayfield and Edale in the High Peak of Derbyshire.

To the North across the Snake Pass lie the high moors of Bleaklow and Black Hill, which are of similar elevation.

Comments

  • Kinder Scout is sadly, also the site of aircraft wrecks. It is a poular walking destination but has caught out many inexperieced "hikers". The weather can change very quickly and low cloud coupled with the isolation of moors and deep, water filled gulleys can leave people lost, injured and cold. The local volunteer Mountain Rescue organisations are called out by the Police but before venturing onto "The Hill" potential visitors should ensure they have adequate equipment, experience and have told someone where they are going and when they should arrive.
