The Janet Airline was set up by the Department of Defense to ferry workers to and from several locations in the Nevada Ranges and various plants. Contracted out to the company EG&G, and based at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, the airline has its own dedicated terminal building and parking area, which is strictly off limits to anyone who does not work at the sites. Heavily armed security are guarding the gates at all times. Hundreds of workers get on these flights each day and the parking lot is always packed with cars.

There are regular flights in Boeing 737's from Las Vegas McCarren Airport to Groom Lake and Tonopah Test Range/Sandia Labs. The workers there are flown in in the morning, and flown back to Las Vegas in the late afternoon. The planes are easy to recognize by the red stripe and the absence of airline markings.

In addition to the above locations, Janet airlines also operate routes to Edwards AFB North Base and Palmdale A.F Plant 42. At Plant 42, EG&G have their own small terminal. These routes are done mostly by Beech Super King Airs, light twin engine aircraft. However Boeing 737-200's have also been seen flying out of Plant 42.

  • That this terminal services Groom Lake is very well established, even if what exactly goes on at Groom Lake is not.
  • This picture was definitely taken over a weekend. I stayed across the road at Mandalay Bay for over 10 days recently and every week day the parking lot would be jammed with cars and the planes were gone early in the morning.
  • area 51 is a military research base not an alien base
  • What are you people looking at? I dont even see anything here, what planes;)
  • That's the point... you don't see it... or else the government would turn this site off....
  • Wow, thank you for the clarification Mr discreditor. Of course it's a military research base. That just happens to house alien technology and actual aliens. But yes, it's a military base.
  • This is a weekday picture for sure. Contractors and regular employees work Monday - Friday and are off on weekends (and Federal Holidays). The full parking lot and 3 Janet Boeing 737 not in the picture (out flying people around) means this is a business as usual weekday.
